New Stamps
New Stamps dedicated to the Fashion Industry

The Israel Postal Company, in collaboration with the Department of Graphic Design and the Bennett & Pauline Rose Costume Archives at Shenkar, launched a series of stamps that track the development of fashion in Israel.

For the first time, the Israel Postal Company issued a series of stamps dedicated to the development of fashion in Israel. The stamps selected for the series were the product of a stamp design project conducted by students at the Department of Graphic Design at Shenkar College. The stamp series that was selected to be issued were designed by Ohad Shemer.

To mark the launching of the series of fashion stamps, an exhibition was held at Shenkar to display the fashion stamps designed by the students, alongside the Israeli fashion items that served as a source of inspiration. The fashion items were taken from the Bennett & Pauline Rose Costume Archives at Shenkar, which contains a rich and unique collection of costumes, textiles and clothes accessories.
As part of the collaboration between Shenkar's Department of Graphic Design and the Israel Postal Company, fourth-year students, under the direction of Dorit Berlin-Reshef, designed a series of stamps that reflect the development of Israeli fashion, whilst taking into consideration the requirements of the Israel Postal Company in designing the stamps – minimalism, clarity, message transparency and stateliness.

The winning series of stamps by Ohad Shemer preserves the atmosphere of the ingathering of the exiles that continued over the years, the connection between new and old, and between sacred and secular. Shemer chose to create collages made of illustrations of figures, strips of cloth from different periods and shreds of paper to give a sense of the unique and multifaceted mix of Israel.
The fashion items displayed in the exhibition alongside the stamp designs created a visual dialogue of historical value. The items on display included a white "Bat-Zion" holiday dress with gold adornments, designed in 1936 by Pnina Riva; a corduroy mini-dress designed by Lola Beer-Ebner for Ata in the 1960s; a long, black and white "Kefiya" dress from the 1970s designed by Rojy Ben Joseph; an embroidered Yemenite shirt from the 1950s; a dress designed by Fini Leitersdorf, and more.

Nurit Bat-Ya'ar, who was a fashion reporter for Yedioth Ahronoth for 30 years, and Ayala Raz, a lecturer in the Department of Fashion Design and author of Changing Styles: 100 Years of Fashion in the Land of Israel, assisted in the study and in advising the students.

The ceremony launching the chosen series of stamps took place in the Lorber Auditorium on Thursday, December 21 at 11:00 AM in the presence of the chairman of the Israel Postal Company, Jacob Edery; the CEO of the Israel Postal Company, Mr. Avi Hochman; the chairman of the company's national workers' committee, Mr. Reuven Karazi; and the president of Shenkar, Professor Amotz Weinberg.

Under Elbaz, Lanvin, a venerable label owned by the Wang family of Taiwan, probably dresses more red carpet stars than any other major fashion house – and without giving away the clothes for free.
Since being appointed in 2001, the Israel-national Elbaz has made Lanvin’s show into one of the chicest presentations in fashion anywhere.
Enormously popular for his panache, lack of pretension, honesty and exceptional talent, Elbaz’s award will be very well received in fashion and in France.
