From the president's desk
Three hundred years ago the French philosopher Voltaire wrote "the right of command is no longer an advantage transmitted by nature; it is the fruit of labors, the price of courage". In other words, leadership is action, not position. Voltaire's quote is appropriate to the time that the late Professor Gad Alon served as President of Shenkar.

During the last Board of Governors meeting, Shenkar faculty, staff, graduates and students gathered for a moving evening in memory of Professor Gad Alon who died twenty years ago. The members of his family and the friends who spoke, paid tribute to his personality and his leadership qualities. There is no doubt that his hard work, devotion and courage, advanced Shenkar from a technical school to an academic institution.

People who contribute to Shenkar must be acknowledged publicly and Moshe Golos is certainly one of them. Moshe has been the Chairman of the Management Committee for the past nine years and a member of the Management Committee for fifteen years. He conducted the meetings very professionally and supported the transformation of the college from a textile institution to a college of engineering and design.
Moshe also served as the Chairman of the Finance Committee and never missed a meeting.

Also retiring from the Management Committee are Mrs. Hanna Weiss and Mr. Shlomo Ankol. Mrs. Hanna Weiss has been a devoted friend of Shenkar ever since its early days, when she held influential positions at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Mrs. Weiss's comprehensive knowledge of the Textile Industry, and Mr. Ankol's expertise in textiles and chemistry, were invaluable at the time when Shenkar established its reputation as a college of textiles. Later when Shenkar evolved into a college of engineering and design, they both continued to share with Shenkar their wisdom and understanding of management and finances.

On behalf of the Shenkar staff and faculty I wish to extend to these dear friends our sincere gratitude for their faithful service, and wish them many more years of activity and achievements in all that they do.

Professor Amotz Weinberg
President
