The Shenkar Design Archive & Research Center
The Shenkar Design Archive & Research Center in Israel was established with the goal of preserving the history and culture of design in Israel, from the beginning of settlement in the Land of Israel through the current period.
The center is the only one in Israel that operates as a documenting archive – that is, focusing on the selection and visual-informative study of the various areas of design history, with an emphasis on encouraging teaching and research in the field. The center coordinates the works of the founding generation, the middle generation and the young generation, and those involved in teaching the various fields of design. In addition to documenting thousands of works of design, the center offers pages of information on each work, video interviews, articles and sources of discussion. In addition, the center engages in documenting and researching the Hebrew letter and in developing a dynamic and interactive library of the thought processes and works of designers as a means of enrichment.
A special emphasis is placed upon creating an active center for the study and research of design, for the support for teaching and recognition of the history of design in Israel and the world, and for the discussion of contemporary design with a view toward the future.
The center engages in all areas of design, such as: Fashion Design, Textile Design, Graphic Design, Built and Environmental Design, Interior Design, Ceramic Design, Industrial Design and Jewelry Design.
The center organizes conferences, seminars and discussions on various design topics, maintains contacts with similar institutions in Israel and abroad, and distributes information to the written and electronic media. In addition, the center makes a special effort to collaborate and develop relationships with the community of designers and design researchers in Israel.
