Professor Shmuel Kenig has been nominated as Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Shenkar. 

Professor Shmuel Kenig received his BSc. ‘summa cum laude’ in Chemical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the Technion, in the PhD also ‘summa cum laude’ from the Faculty of Engineering at McGill University, Canada.

From that time he has held senior research and development positions in industry in the U.S. and at ‘Rafael’ (the Armament Development Authority) in Israel.  Since 1999 he has been head of the Department of Plastics Engineering at Shenkar, the only department in Israel accredited to award a B.Sc in Plastics Engineering. 

Professor Kenig is active in professional associations in Israel and abroad and was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the Israel Polymer and Plastic Society and is a Fellow of the International Association of Plastics Engineering.  

The Department of Chemical Engineering at Shenkar offers a multi-disciplinary program that gives its graduates a broad practical and theoretical knowledge of the planning and control of a variety of processes: in product development; helping industry to adapt to the demands for environmental protection; application of sophisticated materials and new technologies; identification of future development directions; integration of science and engineering.  The program offers courses not offered in any other university in Israel.

Professor Kenig says that the production scope of the chemical industry in Israel is $15.4 billion, from which $8.7 billion are for exports.  There is no doubt that this industry needs employees with an academic background.  Professor Kenig sees his new appointment as a real opportunity to contribute from his vast experience to the development of the department towards research and expansion of the syllabus.  He believes that he received his nomination thanks to his many years of activity and contribution to industry in the areas of chemical engineering and plastics.
