Israeli Internet Association to Award Grants
for Projects of Adapting Open-Code Systems to Hebrew

The Department of Software Engineering at Shenkar was chosen to lead a project to provide Hebrew support for corrective learning management systems

The Israeli Internet Association will award grants for projects of adapting open-code systems to the Hebrew language and for the Israeli user. One of the recipients is the Department of Software Engineering at Shenkar, headed by Professor Emanuel Gruengard.

The Israeli Internet Association decided to support the completion of converting Moodle software to Hebrew for the benefit of all users, convinced that the Hebrew edition would enrich online learning capabilities and many other Internet applications. This development project, assigned to the Department of Software Engineering at the Shenkar College of Engineering & Design, includes the completion of translating the titles, messages, help screens and documentation into Hebrew, as well as correcting problems of directionality related to the Hebrew language via revisions to the source code. The changes will be implemented in accordance with an agreement with the owners and managers of the original Moodle system and will be available to users as an integral part of the product.

With the development of various forms of computerized instruction, the importance of online instruction via the Internet has increased. The cornerstones of building online learning systems are online learning management systems (LMSs) that offer online tools for building, managing and monitoring lesson plans.

The open-code system Moodle has recently gained success and won great acclaim, and is installed in over 1,900 institutions.
The system can be installed on many platforms and offers an especially rich array of functions that operate in complete integration and support dozens of languages, including Hebrew. In addition to the system's applicability in learning systems, it also excels as a portal for many other objectives.
