First exposure of the student internship program in leading companies
The Student Internship program is a unique program that benefits students, the Shenkar College of Engineering & Design and the companies hosting the students. The students are required to work for a company in a relevant industry for approximately ten weeks during the summer vacation period.
The summer of 2006 was a difficult time for any Israeli to be away from Israel in view of what was happening on the home front. It was very hard for our intern students to concentrate on work and forget their friends and families at home. In spite of this, all the students came home with glowing reports of their work places, their hosts and the experience. Many of them are still in contact with their host companies to this date.
By far the largest group of students went to the U.K. to Intern. The program in the U.K. was organized by the former Chair of the British Friends, Carrie Rubin together with Judy Cohen, and with grateful help from Peter Wolff and Marc Worth.
The British Friends found host companies for 18 students from the design faculty, organized cultural activities and took care of their welfare. The group gave a presentation to the British Friends, the graphics for which were done by the students from Graphic Design. Many of the students remain in contact with their companies and amazing design work was carried by the students.
The companies that generously hosted the Shenkar students were:

Naomi Ronn Frank of the Canadian Friends of Shenkar organized the Intern program in Canada for three students, among them the first Chemical Engineering student, Dror Goldenchtein who was hosted by the CTT Company of Ste. Hyacinthe. Dror, now in his final year, is using this industrial experience in his final project. Elana Belokrinitski, Textile Design student was at the Cosaco Company, and Raaya Mitrani, Fashion Design student at Le Chateau.
Charlotte Fainblatt the Executive Director of the American Friends Committee, helped placed two Fashion Design students - Keren Yeshaya and Miri Reginiano - at the Tahari Company.
Sometimes, the contact between the student and the hosting company yields further collaboration. Amiram Assoulin, a Fashion Design graduate of the class of 2006, who interned at the Searle Company in 2005, is now working at the company as one of their design team.
