Recent visitors to Shenkar
The Department of Jewelry Design at Shenkar, whose goal is to advance and develop the art of silversmithing in Israel and to strengthen the connection between jewelry design and industry and art, initiated fascinating encounters between students and designers; Paul Derrez and Kim Buck, who recently visited the Department.
The art of the silversmithing has developed enormously in recent years and is receiving a well deserved place of honor amongst other areas of art. Paul Derrez is one of the leading proponents in this field. He is the driving force behind the famous Amsterdam "Galleriera". Ever since its opening in 1976, this gallery has been the center of modern silversmith. A collection of daring and surprising work, excellent objects that are characterized by uncompromised quality, innovation and boldness and a little humor.
Kim Buck ,the well known Danish Jewelry Designer also recently visited Israel in order to conduct workshops on "Ornament and Industrial Production" for students of Shenkar's Jewelry Design Department. He is a designer of tools and objects, but is mainly known for his jewelry designs. He is a pioneer in the field of encouraging the client to take part in the design of the pieces of jewelry by selection and combination. He is well known for his designs for the Scandinavian company "Georg Jensen".

"Everything becomes good" is the translation of AllesWirdGut the company set up by Architect Herwig Speigl together with Andreas Marth, Friedrich Passler and Christian Waldner. Spiegl gave a workshop to 4th year students in the Department of Interior Building & Environment Design as part of the final project studies. During this workshop he conveyed to the students the AWG's standard refrain ‘Good architecture should not be more expensive – simply more efficient’.
AWG is a resolutely upbeat company that brings zinging pop-style graphics to presentations. A snappy graphical approach from a firm that takes urbanism seriously and considers everything, from exhibition design and shop interiors to urban planning – a perfect example for the Shenkar students.
From Sweden, Lars Engman the Design Manager at IKEA visited Shenkar and gave a lecture to the Design Faculty's students. Engman was the Designer for KF Interiör in Stockholm then moved to IKEA. Between the years 1989 - 1996 he worked as a manager together with Niels Gammelgaard, of Design Studio Copenhagen, on behalf of IKEA.
Recently he was nominated as University College Director HDK, Gothenburg and will be consulting for IKEA, Sweden. Engman is on the Advisory Council for Design Education at several universities in Sweden and has lectured extensively worldwide - Cooper Hewit Design Museum in New York, Elle Decoration in Paris, Moscow, Shanghai, Delft, Brussels, Toronto, Helsinki, Oslo, Copenhagen, London, Lisbon, Valencia, Dublin, Chile, Hong Kong, St Petersburg, Brasil, Tokyo, etc.
