Forty-three graduates who completed four years of study in the Fashion Design Department at Shenkar, (amongst them seven graduates who studied in the communications and styling track), Showed their work at the fashion show sponsored primarily by Castro, Israel's leading fashion company.
Guests of honor at the show included Elie Tahari, renowned New York fashion designer, who employs Shenkar graduates and interns and Marc Worth, founder of WGSN- the well known fashion portal - and long time friend of Shenkar.
A record number of international designers, fashion press and key figures in the fashion industry, arrived for critique of the final designs a week prior to the show.
From Milan - Antonio Berardi, the well-known designer to the stars Beyoncè, Victoria Beckham, Kate Winslet and others. From London – Avshalom Gur, a graduate of Shenkar and owner of the label AVSH ALOM GUR. From New York – Kobi Halperin, a graduate of Shenkar and head designer at Elie Tahari; and Elissa Palomino, former design director at Galliano in Paris and today director of the design studio at Diane Von Furstenberg, New York; and Brian Goldbold, who served as head designer at Marks & Spencer for 20 years and today the owner of a knit company in Spain. Also attending was Joy Yaffe, an international branding consultant.
At the end of the fashion show, Leah Peretz, Head of Fashion Design, announced Yonathan Zohar as the winner of the Diane Von Furstenberg 2009 prize. She revealed that Elissa Palomino came to Israel specifically to critique the collections and choose the winner. Yonathan Zohar will be taking up his internship in September.
at the company in New York.
As always, the students were given freedom of choice in their inspiration for the collections. Sources of inspiration were the disintegration of the idea of collective life on kibbutz, the daily routine in Southern Israel disrupted by gun shots, skirmishes and wars; Jewish myths and family roots. The environment as inspiration was seen from various viewpoints such as protest against the use of furs in fashion and alternate material.
Almost all of the students also developed the prints, knits and various manipulations of the materials and also designed the accessories.

CASTRO, the primary sponsor of the show, hosted the final collections for the first time, in Castro Tel Aviv – its flagship store.
Within the framework of the sponsorship and cooperation with Shenkar graduates, Castro granted a central stage to the Shenkar graduates.
Castro gave the graduates exposure on the second floor of their flagship store in Tel-Aviv. After showing the collections, the items were sold by the graduates themselves. In addition, the students received a prominent place on the CASTRO internet site, where a catalogue of the Shenkar graduate designs was displayed for those visiting the site.
